Disappointment. It can be a word filled with emotions or one devoid of emotions. Cold, bitter disappointment. Life-shattering disappointment. All of that could be possible. However, in my opinion, disappointment regarding a friend is perhaps the sharpest and most bittersweet of them all.
Why am I blabbering about disappointment? A friend very dear to me disappointed me yesterday, which was August 31, 2019. Before I go on about who they are, etc, let me tell you about the Pantera Family. That's what I call it anyway, some of my "family" hates that name. Currently, it's split in half. It's made up of one of my best friends, Olivia, and a couple of others. Aaron and Aidan, who are brothers that can be annoying sometimes, but I love them like they're my own brothers. Christian, who was a recent addition. Who we have all dubbed "good boi" because he is a good boy. And finally, Andy, Aaron's best friend and the edgiest of our group. He would be the target of most of our teasing. Friendly teasing, of course, nothing too harsh. Thinking back on it, a lot of it was my fault, I never considered his feelings. What if he didn't like our teasings? He had never really seriously objected, mostly some annoyed "stop"s and "go away"s. There's also Sunny, but he never comes to the park anymore...
Anyway, yesterday, Andy was playing a game with his friend and talking with him on his phone. We were all pestering him to play with us instead. Our logic? Why are you talking to another friend on the phone your other friends are literally right there? He must if gotten super annoyed when Christian, who is literally only seven, commented, "Andy must have caught the Edgy Butt Syndrom."
We all started laughing. Then Andy stood up and went away. Even though Christian is good boi, he still has some faults. For example, unable to resist the urge to continue teasing Andy. So he did, along with Aaron. I did not expect what was about to happen. A while later, I was being crazy with Olivia and Aiden when Aaron came back and told me that Andy had said some very inappropriate words to Christian.
Being the oldest, I had to control the situation somehow. So I took Aaron, who is Andy's best friend, and Olivia, who was mentally much older than me and we took the squad to attempt to talk to Andy. Aaron went first, he didn't listen and told Aaron to go away. Then I went. he didn't bother to listen. Olivia went next. I didn't bother to stay and listen to him ignore her.
In that moment, the moment when he ignored me and essentially refused to apologize to Christian, my opinion of him plummeted. If he was originally at 85% on my opinion scale, he is at around 3% now. I am not one to quickly judge other people, I like to think the best of everyone. That can lead me to be too gullible and trusting. I don't get offended very often and when I do, I'm always pretty quick to forgive. But once you have done something to seriously offend me, I will never look at you the same way again. Even if I do, it will take a long long time. So good luck getting my trust back, Andy. He might say that he doesn't care what my opinion is of him. Okay, great. You don't have to care.
To conclude this overly long post, I just want to say. A friend disappointing you is the bitterest of all. It might be one of the worst feelings in the world, to me, anyway. I strongly value friendship and once you shatter that, you'll always be shattered in my eyes.
